Variety description

The variety is autochthonous to the Tokaj region. Genetically, it originated from the crossing of Gouais Blanc and Alba Imputotato. The vine has medium vigor. Leaves are medium or large, five-lobed or three-lobed, with pubescence on the underside. Clusters are medium, cylindrical or cylindrical-conical in shape, and often dense. Berries are medium, rounded, yellowish-green, and can acquire a brownish hue upon ripening.

The variety is of late maturity. It is characterized by susceptibility to fungal diseases such as powdery mildew, gray mold, and crown gall, as well as sensitivity to phylloxera and the European grapevine moth. The plant is sensitive to spring and winter frosts, but exhibits drought tolerance.

Wines from Furmint are distinguished by high acidity, full body, pronounced minerality, and the capacity for long aging. The aroma is dominated by notes of ripe apple, pear, quince, apricot, honey, and almond.
