The variety has ancient origins and is the result of a natural cross between Gouais blanc and Blaue Zimmettraube. It is a thermophilic plant with a late ripening period, which requires the selection of suitable sunny sites for cultivation.

Morphologically, the variety is characterized by large, three-lobed, dark green leaves and cylindrical-conical clusters. The medium-sized berries are dark blue in color, covered with a waxy bloom, and protected by a thick skin.

The plant possesses good resistance to winter frosts and grey mold (Botrytis cinerea); however, due to early bud burst, it is susceptible to damage from spring frosts. The grapes are used to create wines with notes of wild berries, cherry, plum, and spices, which are suitable for long aging.
