The Folignan variety is the result of crossing Ugni Blanc and Folle Blanche varieties. The clusters and berries are of medium size. The variety ripens earlier than Ugni Blanc but possesses less resistance to diseases.

The purpose of the variety is the production of high-quality cognac spirits characterized by intense aromas of rose and lilac. The share of Folignan in the vineyards of the Cognac appellation is limited to ten percent.
