The plant is a vigorous vine with a semi-upright habit. Leaves are medium-sized, round, with 3, 5, or 7 lobes and curled edges. Bunches are medium or small, pyramidal in shape, often with a pronounced wing, and dense. Berries are medium-sized, elliptical, with thin but firm skin that acquires an amber hue in the sun, and succulent, fleshy pulp.

The variety has a medium or medium-late ripening period with early budburst. It prefers a dry and warm climate and develops well on poor, stony soils. The variety is characterized by regular yields with low fertility and requires moderate or long pruning.

Fiano is sensitive to powdery mildew and prone to flower abortion under unfavorable weather conditions in spring, but it possesses moderate resistance to downy mildew. The grapes are intended exclusively for winemaking, including the production of dry, sparkling, and dessert wines.
