The variety features very high vine vigor. Leaves are medium to large, elongated, slightly lobed, with cobwebby pubescence on the underside and a closed petiolar sinus. Flowers are bisexual; the variety is self-fertile.
Clusters are large and winged. Berries are medium-sized, round, and black in color. The variety is sensitive to grey mold (Botrytis cinerea). The grapes are used to produce ruby-colored wines with dark berry aromas and are also one of the parent varieties for Dornfelder.
