The Hegel grape variety is a representative of the Vitis vinifera species. The variety was bred in Germany by breeder August Herold at the State Institute for Viticulture and Fruit Growing in Weinsberg.
The variety is rare; its plantings occupy limited areas. For cultivation, it is recommended to select sites suitable for growing the Pinot noir variety.
