The variety is the result of 1928 breeding, developed at the Geisenheim Grape Breeding Institute. Genetic studies in 2012 showed that the data on parental pairs, previously considered to be a cross between Müller-Thurgau and Bican, requires clarification. It is also known by the breeding code Geisenheim 17-52.

The plant belongs to late-ripening varieties and is characterized by low yields. The crop is adapted for cultivation in northern regions, including Germany and Great Britain. Wine made from this variety is characterized by pronounced acidity and light grape flavor notes.
