The variety has hermaphroditic flowers and possesses moderate vigor. The leaves are morphologically close to the Cabernet franc variety. Clusters are medium, cylindrical-conical or conical, of medium density. Berries are black, medium or small, with thick skin and a heavy bloom.

The plant is at risk of damage from late spring frosts and is susceptible to oidium; yields are rated as medium or below average. Wines from this variety are noted for good acidity, freshness, moderate alcohol content, soft tannins, and pronounced fruity-herbal notes.

The grape is used in the production of red and rosé Txakoli wines, as well as in the creation of traditional sparkling wines of the region to provide structure.
