The variety is of Spanish origin from the Andalusia region. In the Canary Islands, it has adapted to local volcanic soils and the climate. Traditionally, the variety is used for winemaking; in mainland Spain, it is the primary variety for the production of Sherry.

The plant belongs to the species Vitis vinifera and is a vine, the shape of which depends on the training system. The variety is sensitive to must oxidation, which requires special technological techniques during vinification. Old own-rooted vineyards of this variety are found in the Canary Islands.

Wines from Listan Blanco are characterized by notes of ripe white fruits, citrus, wildflowers, beeswax, and pronounced salinity. The variety is ancient, of folk selection, and in official reference books, it is classified as Listan or Palomino Fino.
