The variety is a natural hybrid of Hebén and an unknown parent species. It is distributed in the Canary Islands, Madeira, and South American countries, where it played a role in the formation of local varieties such as Quebranta.

The plant possesses resistance to drought, heat, and Botrytis, but is sensitive to downy mildew. It is characterized by moderate or low yield and the presence of black or dark-purple colored berries with medium to thin skin.

The primary purpose is winemaking, including the production of fortified wines and pisco brandy. Wines based on this variety are distinguished by soft tannins and red fruit aromas. The variety has many synonyms, which requires attention during identification.
