The variety is autochthonous to Georgia and the result of centuries of folk selection. The ripening period is approximately five months. The leaves are large, three-lobed, and rounded in shape. Clusters and berries are of medium size, with a bluish-black skin.

The plant possesses moderate resistance to fungal diseases, good winter hardiness, and drought tolerance, but is sensitive to mealybugs. It belongs to the teinturier type, which provides wines with a deep dark color.

A wine grape variety intended for winemaking. The product is characterized by high acidity, extractivity, and astringency. The variety is suitable for the production of dry, semi-sweet, and dessert wines with the potential for long aging.
