The Börner variety is an interspecific hybrid bred for phylloxera control. The plant is characterized by vigorous growth. In the Hungarian National List of Varieties, the designation Kt.14 is registered as a rootstock, which indicates a specific clone or breeding number.
The plant is used only as a rootstock and is not intended for berry production. It possesses high resistance to phylloxera, but has limited tolerance to high lime content in the soil. The variety is a subject of genetic research on resistance to downy mildew and black rot.
