The variety is traditional to central and southern Dalmatia, primarily for the island of Hvar. Prefers deep, moist, and fertile soils. The flower is hermaphroditic. Leaves are medium-sized, five-lobed. Clusters are cylindro-conical in shape, medium density, prone to shatter. Berries are medium or large in size, white-yellow in color with thick skin, and may develop brown spots upon ripening.
The variety is distinguished by high yield, which requires control to maintain wine quality, and high susceptibility to grey mold. The resulting wines are characterized by fresh acidity and moderate alcohol content. The name of the variety translates from Croatian as "given by God," which is historically linked to the use of the wine in religious rites.
