Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is autochthonous to the island of Lesbos and is named after the village of Chidira. In official registers, it is classified as Chidiriotiko N, indicating the dark color of the berries; it is also known by the synonym Kalloniatiko.

The vines are grown on volcanic soils rich in sulfur, which provides natural disease resistance and allows for organic cultivation. The variety requires a long ripening period to reach its full flavor and aromatic potential.

It is used exclusively in winemaking. The wines possess notable acidity and a complex profile with notes of red berries, pomegranate, Mediterranean herbs, and mineral undertones. The variety is used to produce red, blanc de noirs white, and orange wines.
