Chiavennasca is an autochthonous clone of the Nebbiolo variety, which has been cultivated in the Italian region of Valtellina for over 500 years. The vine is adapted to extreme cultivation conditions on steep mountain slopes reaching 70 degrees, at altitudes of up to 800 meters above sea level.

The variety belongs to the industrial category and is used exclusively in winemaking. Chiavennasca is well adapted to the Alpine microclimate with stony soils consisting of clay, limestone, sand, and gravel. Wines from this variety are noted for their structure and aromatic expressiveness.
