Chasselas is a very ancient variety with about 250 synonyms, including Gutedel in Germany and Fendant in Switzerland. The exact origin of the variety has not been established; French or Swiss origin is presumed.

The variety ripens in September. The berries have a yellow-green color and a juicy-sweet taste. Wines produced from this variety are characterized as dry, delicate, and refreshing, often possessing floral or mineral notes.

The plant is suitable for cultivation on sunny slopes and for training on pergolas.
