Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety has rounded five-lobed leaves with a slight degree of pubescence. The large conical-cylindrical clusters are characterized by medium density. The berries are large, oval-shaped and greenish-white in color, with a firm skin and fleshy-juicy flesh with a neutral taste.

The plant has high yield potential, but is characterized by low frost resistance and susceptibility to grey mold, as well as a tendency for ovary shedding. The variety is considered universal, used both fresh and for the production of white wines, often in blends.

The variety is known by a number of synonyms, such as Eva, Mantúo, Montúa and Uva del Rey. In a number of studies, Chelva is recognized as identical to the Portuguese variety Diagalves.
