Enantio is a historical variety, with mentions dating back to the works of Pliny the Elder. Genetically, the variety is close to Lagrein and Teroldego and is not related to the Lambrusco group. A distinctive feature is the presence in the Adige valley of old non-grafted vines, preserved thanks to sandy soils resistant to phylloxera.
The plant is vigorous and energetic, traditionally trained on a high Trentino pergola. Clusters are medium-sized, weighing 250–300 g, elongated-conical and winged. Berries are medium-sized, obovate in shape, blue-black in color with thin skin and an intense bloom.
A late-maturing variety, the harvest is gathered in the first to second ten-day period of October. It possesses good resistance to downy mildew, botrytis, and winter frosts. Wines from this grape have an intense ruby color and aromas of wild berries, spices, and tobacco.
