The variety has many synonyms, including Corçac, Cursach, Escorçac, Escursag, Excursach, Maresco, Moresca, Moresque, and Murescu. It is an indigenous crop with references dating back to 1871. After significant damage caused by phylloxera at the end of the 19th century, the variety was restored in 2006.
The plant belongs to the late-ripening group of varieties. It is distinguished by good resistance to downy mildew but is susceptible to gray mold. It is adapted to the Mediterranean climate and clay-limestone soils with gravel content, and is often grown using bush vine training.
The grapes are intended for the production of red wines with pronounced acidity and fine-grained tannins. Notes of forest berries, such as cherry, raspberry, red currant, and cranberry, are traceable in the aroma of the finished product, as well as shades of Mediterranean herbs: thyme, rosemary, and sage.
