The variety is traditional to the Balearic Islands; its name translates from Catalan as "rooster spur" due to the characteristic shape of the clusters. It is an ancient local crop that is not the result of modern breeding.
A wine grape variety used exclusively in winemaking for the production of red wines. In production, it is often found in blends with other local varieties, such as Callet and Escursac. It is cultivated primarily by small wineries using regenerative farming methods.
