Espadeiro Mole is an ancient variety genetically linked to the Manseng Noir variety. In scientific literature, it is classified as a minor variety of historical interest for the preservation of biodiversity within ampelographic collections.
The variety has a technical purpose and is officially permitted for use in the production of wines with the protected designation of origin Vinho Verde and IG Minho. Publications note the risk of confusion of this variety with Espadeiro Tinto, Padeiro, or Tinta Amarela varieties.
