The Esther (Eszter, Royal Esther, Königliche Esther, R-65) variety is an interspecific hybrid obtained from crossing the Eger 2 and Magaracsi Csemege varieties. The vines are characterized by medium to above-medium vigor, and the cane matures well. The ripening period is 105–115 days.
Bunches are conical, moderately dense, with a weight of 350–550 g. Berries weigh 3–4 g, are dark blue in color, and have firm, crisp flesh and thin skin. The variety is intended primarily for fresh consumption and can also be used for the production of table and dessert wines.
The variety possesses frost resistance down to –24...–25 °C and good resistance to fungal diseases, such as downy mildew, powdery mildew, and botrytis. Preventive treatment against grey mold is required, as is sensitivity to magnesium deficiency and intolerance to short pruning.
