The variety was bred by the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment (INRAE). The main goal of the breeding was to create a grape with high resistance to fungal diseases to reduce pesticide use in wine production.

The genotype of the variety contains resistance loci Run1, Ren3, Ren9, Rpv1 and Rpv10, which provide protection against downy mildew and powdery mildew. Wines from this variety possess a characteristic organoleptic profile.
