The variety belongs to the Western European ecological-geographical group. The vines have low yield, leaves are small, three-lobed. It belongs to the early ripening varieties: it buds early and matures approximately a week and a half after the Chasselas variety.
The variety is best adapted to a cool climate and is not drought tolerant. It possesses moderate resistance to powdery mildew and grey mold, but is susceptible to European grapevine moth infestation and prone to flower/berry drop during flowering. Wines made from this variety are characterized by full body and the ability to accumulate high levels of sugar.
