The variety is the result of a natural mutation of the Traminer variety and was historically formed in the alpine region. The berries are medium-sized and have a pink, reddish, or bronze-colored skin. The variety has high potential for sugar accumulation, which, given the low acidity, requires careful monitoring of harvest timing.
The plant belongs to mid-early or late varieties, developing best in cool climates. The variety is considered temperamental to grow: it is sensitive to spring frosts due to early bud break, tolerates drought and harsh winters poorly, and is prone to flower drop during blossoming. Resistance to powdery mildew and gray mold is rated as medium.
Wines from this grape variety are distinguished by an intense and recognizable aroma, including notes of lychee, roses, honey, spices, and exotic fruits. High sugar accumulation in the berries contributes to producing wines with high alcohol content.
