Morokanella is an indigenous Cypriot variety that was historically widespread but later declined and was revived through biodiversity conservation programs. Currently, the variety is cultivated in limited areas.
The clusters of the variety are medium-sized, berries are round with thick skin, acquiring a cinnamon hue upon ripening. Harvesting takes place at the end of September. The variety is characterized by low yields and is well-adapted to drought and calcareous soils.
The purpose of the variety is technical (winemaking). Wines from Morokanella possess balanced acidity, aging potential, and an aromatic profile with notes of white flowers, citrus, and mineral undertones.
