Variety description

10 August 2026

Muscats are among the oldest cultivated grape varieties. This is a group of varieties that evolved over millennia, rather than a breeding product. The primary purpose is universal, including the production of a wide range of wines from dry to fortified, fresh consumption, and raisin production.

The Muscat of Alexandria vine is characterized by moderate vigor and an upright bush. Clusters are medium or large, conical in shape. Berries are oval, greenish-yellow, acquiring an amber hue in the sun, with firm skin and a pronounced muscat aroma. The variety is distinguished by high sugar content and aromatic notes of jasmine, orange blossom, honey, and citrus.

The variety is thermophilic and requires a long ripening period. It tolerates drought well and is adapted to poor, stony, or sandy soils, but has low resistance to fungal diseases. Increased humidity and prolonged rains provoke berry rot. There are other varieties, for example, Moscatel Rosado, which is an independent variety.
