The variety is considered rare and, according to various theories, is either a genetic mutation of the Moscatel Galego variety or a result of crossing Ferral Roxo and Muscat d'Hamburg. The grapes are used mainly in winemaking to create aromatic sweet wines; they are less frequently used as a table variety.

Berries and clusters are smaller in size compared to Muscat of Alexandria and are distinguished by a characteristic pink hue. The plant enters vegetation early, has a medium or mid-late maturity group, and is distinguished by high sugar content, which attracts birds.

Wines made from this variety are characterized by notes of bitter orange, raisin, fig, hazelnut, as well as floral and citrus tones. The variety is susceptible to downy mildew and insect infestation, and is grown primarily in the Setúbal Peninsula region in Portugal.
