The Moscatel Graúdo variety is genetically identical to Muscat of Alexandria and is traditionally cultivated in Portugal. The name of the variety translates from Portuguese as "large," which indicates the size of its berries. The variety is technical and serves as the basis for the production of fortified wines in the Setúbal region, and is also used in blends for creating dry and semi-dry wines.

The plant belongs to the group of late-ripening varieties with a long growing season. For full sugar accumulation, the variety requires a significant amount of sunlight and heat. The vine is sensitive to excessive humidity and prolonged precipitation, which provoke a susceptibility of the berries to rot.
