The variety is autochthonous to the Castile-La Mancha region in Spain. The grape is a wine variety with dark berry skins and is used to create quality young red wines with red fruit aromas.

The plant possesses high adaptability to difficult climatic conditions, effectively tolerating heat and drought, and surpassing Tempranillo group varieties in a number of physicochemical indicators. It is cultivated on stony and loamy soils, with harvest possible at the end of August.
