The variety belongs to the species Vitis vinifera and is of autochthonous origin from the French department of Vaucluse. The plant forms bushes with long drooping shoots that require mandatory trellis training. The leaves are large, often heart-shaped, with a pronounced blistered surface.
Bunches are of medium size, cylindrical or triangular in shape, and characterized by density. The berries have an oval shape and a black-blue color. The variety is characterized by a medium ripening period and high susceptibility to esca and grey mold (Botrytis cinerea).
In winemaking, the variety is used primarily in blends, where it contributes aromas of strawberry, floral tones, and acidity. Due to the tendency of the wines to oxidize, it is recommended to consume them at a young age.
