The variety is a hybrid of Gamay and Vitis riparia varieties. The plant forms five-lobed wedge-shaped leaves; shoots have a semi-upright growth habit. Clusters of the variety range from small to medium size and are characterized by looseness; berries are small, round or slightly elliptical in shape.
The variety has resistance to downy mildew, powdery mildew and moderate resistance to phylloxera; the use of grafted culture is recommended. The variety requires long pruning due to high fertility. Wines are characterized by intense color and a specific resinous or "foxy" aroma; potential alcohol content is 14–17% vol.
