Variety description

The variety is autochthonous to the Lot department in southwestern France and has many synonyms, such as Bernadou, Loubal, and Oubal. It is a productive variety with a semi-erect vine habit; the flower is hermaphroditic.

The plant is characterized by late budburst, which increases its resistance to spring frosts, and it also demonstrates low susceptibility to grey mold. The clusters of the variety are medium to large in size, compact; the berries are medium, round or elliptical with juicy flesh.

Wines produced from the Noual variety are characterized by a low alcohol content and are not intended for long-term aging, lending freshness and liveliness to blends. Currently, the variety is grown on a limited basis within the framework of programs for the conservation of local French varieties.
