Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is autochthonous to the south of France; the first mentions of it date back to 1600. The name Pécoui touar, translated from Provençal, means "twisted petiole," which is due to the specific right-angle curvature of the cluster peduncle.

The plant is vigorous and belongs to the third period of maturity. The clusters are larger than average, cylindrical-conical, and sometimes winged. The berries are slightly larger than average, spherical or ellipsoidal, with dense dark red, almost black skin and juicy pulp of simple flavor.

The variety is high-yielding, resistant to powdery mildew, but susceptible to downy mildew and gray mold. It is used exclusively in winemaking as a blending component for the production of light wines with low alcohol content and acidity. Currently, it is considered a rare and endangered variety.
