The Refosco family formed historically as a local grape variety. The most valuable representative is Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, distinguished by the reddish hue of the peduncle before ripening. The bushes possess great vigor, and the shoots have long internodes.

The leaves of the variety are rounded, slightly dissected, predominantly five-lobed. The clusters are small or medium-sized, conical, and dense. The berries are bluish-black with a thick waxy bloom and firm skin, are medium-sized, and have an ellipsoid or rounded shape.

The variety has stable yields and tolerates winter cold well, but is sensitive to spring frosts. It is resistant to Botrytis cinerea and esca, but susceptible to downy mildew and anthracnose. In winemaking, it requires strict control of harvest timing to prevent excessive tannin levels.
