Refosco represents a family of closely related grape varieties whose history can be traced back to ancient times. The vines possess high vigor. Leaves are round, slightly lobed, and five-lobed. Clusters are medium to small in size, conical in shape, and have a dense structure. Berries are medium-sized, round, dark blue in color, covered with a thick waxy bloom, and have a thick skin.

The variety is characterized by stable yields at a medium or below-average level. It is relatively resistant to gray mold and esca, however, it shows susceptibility to downy mildew and anthracnose, and is also sensitive to weather conditions. The most well-known variety is Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso.

The grape has a technical use. Wines produced from it possess high acidity, pronounced tannins, and a dark violet color. The aroma is dominated by notes of black berries, violets, and spices. Due to their structure, the wines demonstrate high aging potential.
