The variety is autochthonous to the Spanish regions of Tarragona and Penedès. Genetically, it is not related to the red variety Sumoll, although it is historically hypothesized that it may be its natural mutation.

The plant is characterized by a late ripening period, low vigor, and very high susceptibility to downy mildew and gray mold. Due to the difficulty in cultivation, the variety belongs to rare and uncommon varieties.

Wines from this variety possess high acidity, minerality, and medium body without pronounced tannins. The aromatic profile contains notes of lemon, green apple, pineapple, as well as floral and herbaceous nuances. The grape is used for creating varietal wines, blends, and sparkling wines.
