The Sušćan variety, also known by the synonyms Sansigot and Sušćan Crni, is autochthonous to the Kvarner region. The plant is adapted to difficult growing conditions, in particular sandy soils, and possesses high yield. The variety belongs to the mid-to-late maturity group and demonstrates good resistance to fungal diseases, such as Botrytis.
Wine from this variety is characterized by medium body, moderate alcohol level, and balanced acidity. The aromatic profile contains shades of raspberry, blackberry, blackcurrant, violet, and sweet spices. Currently, the main mass of modern plantings of the variety is concentrated on the island of Krk.
