Variety description

The variety is the result of a natural cross between the Garganega and Uva Sacra varieties and has a genetic relationship with the Sangiovese variety. The leaf is pentagonal, five-lobed, with a closed petiolar sinus. The cluster is medium or small in size, cylindrical. The berry is small, round, dark blue, and covered with a thick waxy bloom.

The variety is of mid-season maturity and is historically characterized by high yield at a young age, which decreases sharply after 10–15 years. It is susceptible to fungal diseases and frost. The purpose of the variety is the production of red and rosé wines, both varietal and in blends with other varieties, for example, with Negroamaro.
