The variety is a clone of the Teleki 8B rootstock, which is a hybrid of Berlandieri and Riparia species. It is not an independent grape variety in the general sense, as it is not grown for berries or wine production, but is used as a base for grafting cultivated varieties.

The selection is aimed at improving the biological properties of the rootstock, including root system development and adaptation capacity. Historically, Teleki 8B is considered a group of related hybrids from which individual clones are distinguished in different countries, including the Romanian selection Dragasani 57.
