The variety is a specialized phylloxera-resistant rootstock used for grafting grapevines, rather than for berry production. It was obtained through the hybridization of Vitis berlandieri × Vitis riparia. The designation Cr.2-K.18 indicates a specific selection clone selected within this variety group.

The bushes possess very high vigor, which can influence the growth characteristics of the grafted varieties. The rootstock is distinguished by high resistance to root phylloxera, fungal diseases, and a high soil carbonate content of up to 35%. It forms a good graft union with most scions, although insufficient affinity is sometimes observed.
