The variety is a wine grape and is cultivated primarily on the island of Crete. It is genetically close to the varieties Begleri, Dafnato, and Vidiano. Besides the production of white wines, including sweet ones, the variety is sometimes used for table purposes.

The plant belongs to the late maturity group, characterized by high yield and significant resistance to heat and drought. Bunches are large and conical in shape; berries are small to medium, spherical or ellipsoidal in shape, with yellow-green skin.

Wines from this variety possess notes of melon, peach, and tropical fruits. Full-bodied character, rounded texture, and above-average alcohol are typical. With proper agrotechnology and yield management, the variety is capable of producing wines with an aging potential of up to 10 years.
