The variety has a Mediterranean origin and is mentioned in ancient sources under the name Bumasti. It is traditionally used as a table variety, however, in some regions of Spain, it is found in mixed plantings for wine production.
The name Teta de Vaca is a common synonym for varieties with an elongated berry shape of the "lady's finger" type. Plant characteristics may vary: typical traits include vigorous bush growth, late maturity, large berries with a harmonious taste, and sensitivity to fungal diseases and berry drop.
