The variety is native to Crete. It is not genetically related to the Athiri variety, but has kinship with the Begleri, Dafnato and Vidiano varieties. Some sources indicate identity with the Begleri variety. The vines have significant vigor and are capable of growing at altitudes of up to 800 meters.
The grape is mid-season and is characterized by high drought tolerance. The berries are small or medium, yellow-green in color. Yield reduction is required to obtain a concentrated flavor.
The main purpose is the production of dry white wines, less often dessert wines. The wines are distinguished by aromas of melon, peach and tropical fruits, mild acidity and a full-bodied structure.
