The variety has the synonyms Pau-Ferro and Tinta-Lameira, and is known in Spain as Parraleta. The vines are characterized by medium vigor, semi-erect growth habit, and hermaphroditic flowers. The leaves are large and five-lobed; the bunches and berries are medium-sized.
The variety requires a hot and dry climate, is highly sensitive to moisture, and is susceptible to rot. Yields are high but can be unstable. The wines are distinguished by a garnet color, good acidity, and an elegant profile with notes of ripe fruit and herbal undertones.
