The use of basil in border plantings is based on its ability to disorient pests through volatile compounds, making it difficult for them to locate the main crop. From a decorative perspective, basil is valued for its morphological diversity of cultivars and the ability to create color contrasts. Unlike other border plants, basil requires specific agronomic practices: regular pinching of the tops to maintain a compact, spherical shape and the removal of flower stalks, which directs the plant's resources toward vegetative growth.
