Diseases
Poa pratensis L.
A complex of fungal diseases of Kentucky bluegrass caused by pathogens of the genera Drechslera and Bipolaris, leading to leaf spotting and gradual thinning of the turf.
In the reference 11 varieties crop Kentucky bluegrass, where this is mentioned in the description.
The pathogens of the disease are fungi of the genera Drechslera and Bipolaris, among which Drechslera poae, as well as Bipolaris sorokiniana, are considered the most specific to Kentucky bluegrass. The infection manifests as dark brown or purple spots on the leaves, which cause tissue necrosis upon merging.
A characteristic form of damage in Kentucky bluegrass is "melting-out," where the infection affects the crown, roots, and rhizomes, leading to the gradual death of the plants. The disease develops intensively under conditions of moderate temperatures from 15–18°C and high humidity with the presence of leaf surface moisture for more than 10 hours.
