Cultivation
Gladiolus L.
Growing gladioli in a limited soil volume allows for the management of the growing season, ensuring complete corm maturation in regions with short summers by moving containers to protected conditions.
In the reference 43 varieties crop Gladiolus, where this is mentioned in the description.
For successful gladiolus development, containers with a volume of at least 5–7 liters and a depth of 40 cm or more are required, which is necessitated by the height of the flower spikes and the need for sufficient nutrition. The artificial substrates used must have high drainage capacity, while the limited feeding area requires intensive fertilization and precise irrigation control.
The container method allows for high planting density, including bouquet compositions with the addition of trailing plants to mask the lower part of the stems. Since gladiolus blooming is short-lived, the ability to move containers allows for easy changes to landscape compositions, although this does not negate the mandatory annual cycle of lifting and winter storage of the corms.
