Root rots of soybean

Glycine max (L.) Merr.

A complex soybean disease caused by a number of pathogens, including Fusarium fungi, Pythium, Rhizoctonia solani, and the oomycete Phytophthora sojae. The disease affects the plant at all growth stages, causing seedling death, stunted growth, and destruction of the root system.

In the reference 29 varieties crop Soybean, where this is mentioned in the description.

The etiology of the disease includes a wide range of pathogens: Fusarium species (F. oxysporum, F. solani, F. poae, etc.), the oomycete Phytophthora sojae, the fungus Thanatephorus cucumeris, as well as the genera Pythium, Cylindrocarpon, and Corynespora. High humidity, poor soil aeration, and temperature stress contribute to the development of infection, leading to seed rot, root blackening, and vascular stem damage.

In controlling Phytophthora root rot, Rps resistance genes play a key role, providing qualitative protection, as well as polygenic mechanisms of partial resistance. For Fusarium root rots, quantitative trait loci (QTLs) have been identified on chromosomes 13 and 17 of soybean, and cellular immunity genes, such as GmHIR1, have been studied.
