Specimen planting is a landscaping technique of placing a single plant in an open space to highlight its individual qualities. This method requires special attention to decorative appearance, crown shape, and plant health, as it is visible from all sides.

The choice of a cultivar for such planting depends on its ability to maintain decorative appeal over a long period and its suitability for the plot size.
